About
How My Journey Began
As a child, I spent most of my free time playing in and exploring the great outdoors. I built forts in the woods, climbed rocks and trees, rode bikes down gravel roads, and splashed through creeks. As I grew older, my time outside evolved into more structured activities, such as rock climbing, backpacking, camping, snowboarding, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. (Basically, if it involved being outside and it challenged my mind and body, I wanted to do it.) However, I experienced many health challenges throughout my childhood and college that caused chronic fatigue, extreme muscle pain, and muscle weakness which often prevented me from participating in outdoor activities to the extent that I wanted.
At the encouragement of one of my college professors, I began strength training and found that, although it didn’t cure my illness, strength training helped improve my symptoms enough that I was slowly able to return to outdoor sports. This experience put me on the path to becoming a personal trainer. I knew I wanted to help others get stronger and overcome their own obstacles so they could participate in the activities they love.
Why Adventure Stronger
Throughout my last semester of college and the year following graduation, I worked in commercial and boutique gyms as a personal trainer. I enjoyed helping my clients learn to move better and get stronger for their goals. However, I noticed some barriers to success that clients were experiencing in the typical gym setting. For clients with other obligations such as family or a second job, scheduling a personal training session at a time that worked for them and the trainer could be really challenging and stressful. Additionally, the majority of clients didn’t receive accountability or support outside of their training sessions, so they were not making as much progress toward their goals as they wanted. And lastly, many gym members who wanted to work with a trainer simply couldn’t afford a gym membership plus the cost of personal training, which can cost anywhere from $80 to $100 per hour to work with a knowledgeable trainer. I knew there had to be a better way to help more people receive quality training.
After months of brainstorming and a lot of encouragement from family and friends, I decided to start Adventure Stronger to provide flexible, affordable, and specialized strength training programs for outdoor adventurers and weekend warriors because high quality training for outdoor sports should not be exclusive to Red Bull athletes or Olympians. Adventure Stronger is here to remove barriers to high quality training so the everyday adventurer can chase their next adventure without limitations.
